Cooking with CBD and 5 of our favourite recipes

Cooking food with CBD is far from a recent phenomenon, it dates back centuries, and the ancient Indians dreamt up some divine fusions.
In this article we’ll list our five favourites. Starting with chocolate chip cookies because who doesn’t like choc chip cookies?
CBD Choc Chip Cookie Recipe
This recipe will make around 30 CBD choc chip cookies and consists of:
- 150g of salted butter
- CBD oil, 10ml we would recommend 400mg CBD strength
- 80g of granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 200g of chocolate chips
- 80g of brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 225g of plain flour
- Half teaspoon of baking soda
Cooking instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees of 370 Fahrenheit and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Add the softened salted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar to a bowl and beat until the mixture becomes creamy.
- Add in the vanilla extract, egg, and CBD oil. Beat it into the mixture.
- Sift the plain flour and baking soda into the bowl and add a pinch of salt. Mix it in using a wooden spoon.
- Pour in the chocolate chips and stir well.
- Scoop the mixture out of the bowl using a spoon, and space dollops of it out on a baking tray. The dough should make approximately 30 cookies.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 10mins until the cookies begin to brown at the edges. They should still be slightly soft in the centre but browned at the edges.
Once browned simply remove and allow to cool before devouring them and enjoy the CBD. Remember, the CBD strength should dictate how many you eat, so you can fully enjoy the experience.
CBD Infused Guacamole
This is a delightful and fresh guacamole dish, and one of our personal favourites. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1ml Full Spectrum CBD oil
- 3 medium ripe avocados, peeled, halved, and seeded
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- Half tsp salt
- Half tsp ground cumin
- Quarter tsp ground cayenne pepper
- Half medium onion, finely diced
- 2 small tomatoes, seeded and diced
- 1 large garlic clove, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
- Half jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
And here’s what to do with the above:
- Place the avocados in a mortar or bowl and mash them with a fork or pestle.
- Add the salt, cumin, garlic, cayenne pepper, cilantro, onion, jalapeno, tomatoes, and lime juice. Top the mixture with your full-spectrum CBD oil and stir to combine.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the guacamole sit at room temperature for 2 hours before serving.
CBD Infused Butter or Cannabutter
Butter is used with many recipes, so what a great way of bringing CBD into various dishes using butter already infused with CBD.
Here’s what you’ll need to make cannabutter:
- 1 cup ground cannabis flower (adjust according to preferred dosage)
- 1 cup organic unsalted butter
- 1 cup water (optional)
And here’s are the steps to follow:
- Preheat oven to 115°C. Place your cannabis flower on the baking sheet and spread it out evenly, breaking it down by hand into smaller chunks if necessary. Cover with parchment.
- Place it in the oven for 35-45 minutes, taking care to mix or simply shake the pan every 10 minutes or so as it bakes. This is the decarboxylation process.
- Once done, grind the cannabis flower down to medium or fine course. How much of the plant you use for this is up to the individual, but note that when grinding, anything small enough to fit through your strainer will be part of your final product.
- Add your butter and water into a stock pot or saucepan to melt the butter. Simmer it on low until it is completely melted.
- Once the butter is melted, add your coarsely ground cannabis and simmer. Your heat should be maintained at low, above 75ºC and never exceeding 93ºC. This mixture should simmer for 2 to 3 hours, during which you should stir occasionally.
- This is a precarious stage - never allow it to boil or get too hot, as overcooking will destroy the CBD.
- Strain the butter using a funnel lined with cheesecloth, on top of the container of your choice. Once cooled, pour the butter over the funnel and allow it to strain freely.
- Once all your butter has been strained, refrigerate the container. The butter should become solid again after an hour or so. Excess water may form at the bottom of the jar, which can be dealt with by removing the solidified butter with a knife and draining the water out.
Now you have your own cooking ingredient infused with CBD, and here’s a great way for using it…
CBD Brownies
Making use of the cannabutter, and here’s what else you will need to make delightful CBD infused brownies:
- 1 cup CBD butter, melted
- 3 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 half cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup of chocolate chips
And the method for putting these together:
- Preheat oven to 175°C. Lightly grease your baking dish, or line it with aluminium foil to prevent sticking later.
- In a large mixing bowl, add melted CBD butter, sugar, and vanilla. Beat in 4 eggs one at a time, thoroughly mixing after each one is added. Your final mixture should be well blended.
- In a separate mixing bowl, take your all-purpose flour, cocoa powder and salt and sift it together. Gradually stir this sifted mixture into the egg mixture until it is blended well.
- Stir in the chocolate chips. Once again, ensure that it’s thoroughly blended.
- Spread your finished batter into the prepared baking dish.
- Place your dish in the oven and bake for 35 minutes.
- To check that your brownies are properly baked, simply stick a toothpick into the centre of it. If, when the toothpick is removed, it comes out clean, the brownies are done.
- Remove the baking dish from the oven and place atop a wire rack or other appropriate place to cool off. Once cool enough, divide it up into the serving sizes of your choice.
Again, it’s another one of our personal favourites but who doesn’t like chocolate related edibles!!
